Traditional Skills Training opportunities
Contractor upskilling- Courses 2019
We are planning to run a series of traditional skills courses aimed at building contractors during 2019. If you would like to register interest for future courses please email email@example.com
Proposed Lead Training 2019- dates to be confirmed
Course 1: Leadwork Bossing and Forming 3 days total
Including: Front Apron, Chute Outlet, Back Gutter, Internal / External corners, Undercloak to roll and Drip Edge
Course 2: Lead Welding 3 days total
Including: Butt Weld, Lap Weld, Cover Patch, Fillet Weld, Incline, Lead slate, Front Apron, Back Gutter Saddle.
We will be looking for applicants with prior work experience associated with lead e.g. roof workers, general maintenance, plumbers or anyone with metalwork skills. Please note that to attend the Leadwork Welding Course you must have completed the Lead Bossing and Forming course first, or have proof that you have done a similar course in the recent past.
Mortar & Masonry Training – dates to be confirmed.
We are hoping to run Motar and Masonry Training during 2019. If you would like to register interest for future courses please email firstname.lastname@example.org
This intensive week of training and assessment will combine the courses ‘C1 Making and Using Traditional Mortars’ and ‘C2 Traditional Masonry Repair’ with continual assessment to allow you to gain SQA National Units 1, 2 & 3 in Conservation Masonry within five intensive days.
This week is only suitable for those with previous masonry repair experience and trowel skills (of building, pointing and harling in particular). Those indicating interest will be required to complete an assessment questionnaire from the Scottish Lime Centre prior to confirmation.

The content covered over this 5 day workshop and assessment will include:
1. Understanding of lime technology
2. Creating a repair strategy
3. Design of new mortars for conservation work
4. Harling and renders
5. Preparation of mortars
6. Lime washing
7. Lime pointing for rubble and ashlar
8. Stone indenting
9. Surface repair of stone
This intensive course is only suitable for those with previous masonry repair experience (of building, pointing and harling in particular). Those indicating interest will be required to complete an assessment questionnaire from the SLCT prior to confirmation.
What is the cost to you for each of the courses?
The training is funded but successful applicants will be required to pay a £50 non-refundable reservation fee per course to secure their place. If your application to attend is successful you will be issued with an invoice and details of how to pay.
